Like many other modern vehicles, the Nissan 350Z is
equipped with an electronic stability control system; Nissan has two
systems depending on what trim level your 350Z is. The Enthusiast Z
has Traction Control System (TCS), while the Track 350Z is equipped
with Vehicle Dynamic Control (VDC). Both systems achieve similar results
but do so in different ways. TCS reduces engine speed (throttle cut)
when the computer detects that a wheel is spinning at a disproportionate
amount to the speed your Z is traveling.
VDC uses throttle cut and additionally limits the amount of wheel
spin allowed by using a Brake Limited Slip Differential (LSD) based on
data from a Yaw sensor. The Brake LSD system goes into action when one
of the drive wheels is spinning on a slippery surface by braking the
spinning wheel to redistribute power to the other, non-slipping drive
wheel.
While Nissan is nice enough to give you an "off" button for both of
these systems, they never are fully disabled. Whiteline's Black Box
solves this problem by allowing you to electronically tune your Nissan
350Z's TCS/VDC to give control of the amount of wheel spin. The patented
Black Box system is unique in allowing cockpit adjustable handling
bias, a single dial delivers more oversteer or understeer on demand.
Only Whiteline's Black Box lets you tune the amount of TCS/VDC
intervention and even turn off stability control completely, without
error codes or warning lights.
